Happy Canada Day and welcome to July 1st everyone. Over the past couple of days we have heard of plenty of deals that have already been made but they cannot officially be announced until now.

John Tavares Watch is still on and that will be the biggest story of the day for most of the NHL. Oilers fans are more concerned about if there are any options that can assist the team that will fall in their budget.

The Oilers have very little cap space due to a number of bloated and unmovable contracts, it is unlikely we see more than one or two small depth signings today.

Today the Oilers paid Lucic a 3 million dollar bonus. There have been rumours that a deal is in place to move Lucic but no team would want to pay that bonus. Now that the Oilers have paid that we may see more chatter on that end.

Plenty of other goaltenders have been signed already, Hutton (2.75 AAV) Ward (2.5 AAV) Khudobin (2.5AAV). This makes the Koskinen deal even more suspect. Considering the amount of backups available this summer it is another waste of cap space for Edmonton.

Not official but it looks as though Kyle Brodziak is returning to Edmonton on a two year deal 1 million dollar AAV. Brodziak is a much better fit on the fourth line than Letestu was and is another right shot centre who can contribute on the PK. That may be the only deal we see from Edmonton today.

I'll update more here as the day goes on.

Aaaaand I'm already updating...Oilers sign left defenseman Kevin Gravel. He is a Eric Gryba type of player which makes me ask why the team didn't just keep Eric Gryba.

Yeah really don't get why they didn't just keep Gryba...

Brodziak signing is official. This is a good move for the Oilers

Oilers sign Reider. 1 Year 2 Million. Maybe Edmonton should always have no cap space.... makes the team do smart things
