Let's Get Going: Free Agency Begins - Oilers Sign Kyle Turris, Tyler Ennis
Sit back with your coffee (maybe add in some Bailey's) and let's get to it.
Plenty of rumblings going on right now with the Oilers name tossed out in association with a number of players.
It looks like Edmonton may be offering max term (7 years) to Jacob Markstrom. Depending on the dollar amount per year that is a signing that could still provide massive value for the Oilers. The cap will eventually increase again and even if Markstrom is able to be a starter for 4 or 5 years of that deal I would call it a win.
The Oilers would be very interested in signing Taylor Hall on a short term deal. Hall wants to go to a competitor where he can have a chance to win a Cup. I don't see Edmonton as the best fit for him but it remains interesting that the Oilers keep popping up in conversation.
Oscar Klefbom will likely end up being put on LTIR freeing up more cap space in that regard. Someone like Tyson Barrie or Torey Krug would be able to replace what he brings on the powerplay. Barrie strikes me as a more affordable option on a shorter term deal.
Here is currently how I would rank the Oilers needs this off-season.
- 3rd Line Centre
- Starting Goalie
- Replacement for Klefbom
- Top Six Winger
- Depth Forwards
Hopefully today will be a fun day and help to paint a clearer picture on what else to expect from this bizarre off-season. I will update as signings are made.
- Bob Mckenzie saying that the Oilers have offered Markstrom a 7 year deal with an AAV in the 5 million dollar range.
OILERS SIGN KYLE TURRIS - 2 YEAR DEAL
There is the right shot third line centre the Oilerse have been searching for.
Edmonton sign Kyle Turris to a two year deal. Turris was just bought out of his 6 million a year deal that ran through the 23/24 season. Turris is no longer the 50+ point producer he was in his prime but still has offensive instincts. Could finally help to provide a more offensive minded third line instead of the overly defensive groups Tippett was forced to run last year.
The deal is 1.65 million per year is key here and allows Edmonton to still be in on some of the big names such as Markstrom.
OILERS SIGN QUINE
Edmonton has also signed depth forward Alan Quine to a one year deal at 750,000.
The depth forward played with Calgary last season, putting up one goal in 9 games. Could fit in well on a fourth line or simply be another good AHL option.
OILERS SIGN SETH GRIFFITH
Another depth AHL move for Ken Holland. The 27 year old right shot centre put up 41 points in 58 games playing for the Manitoba Moose. The Condors were bad last year and the team needs more proven veterans at that level to shelter and help the young skilled prospects.
OILERS SIGN GOALIE ANTON FORSBERG
- Assuming the plan here is that Edmonton needs an AHL level goalie. 27 year old with 48 games played in the NHL and an average 0.901SV%. Relax guys this is for the Condors not the Oilers.
OILERS SIGN TYLER ENNIS
Seemed likely this would happen. Oilers sign Tyler Ennis to a one year one million dollar deal
Fantastic value for a player who can step in anywhere in the top 9.
Going to update rumours and rumblings here.
- Currently looks like Markstrom is no longer an option for Edmonton, might be going to Calgary now.
- Matt Benning signs a two year deal in Nashville worth 1 million per season.
