Kraken Bring In Dumoulin, Yamamoto

A couple of moves by the Kraken over the past 24 hours.

For starters, the Kraken signed stay at home defenseman Brian Dumoulin. The 31 year old defender has spent his entire career with the Penguins. While not exactly the type of defender we thought the Kraken would go after (not a puck mover), Dumoulin is a steady defender and you know exactly what you are going to get from him with every shift.

The contract was 2 years at 6.3 million (3.15 AAV)

The second big move the Kraken made was adding former Oiler Kailer Yamamoto. Obviously this is a player I have experience with in Edmonton and I do think this is a nice, low risk pickup for the Kraken.

Yamamoto was too expensive for the Oilers at 3.1 million but on a one year 1.5 million dollar deal that keeps him as an RFA after the fact it is a nice piece of business for Seattle.

Yamamoto despite being a smaller player is highly tenacious and excellent on the forecheck, battling for pucks. The biggest knocks to his game is that he doesn't shoot nearly enough and he has dealt with a number of upper body, neck and head injuries already as a 24 year old.

Yamamoto is likely best suited on a third line role but has shown to be capable of working with elite top six players in McDavid and Draisaitl. A good signing by Ron Francis.

As of now that is all we have seen from the Kraken. Tinkering around the edges of the roster while working to continue improving the prospect pool. Ultimately it is a safe and likely successful plan for long term success.
