I love when I write a blog and then accidentally delete it all.

With Toronto struggling as of late the North Division is wide open. Ottawa isn't going to make the playoffs (sorry to be the first to say this) and it's likely Vancouver will miss too, although Demko might have something to say about that.

Realistically I see five teams; the Leafs, Oilers, Jets, Flames, and Canadiens competing for the four playoff spots. Tonight Edmonton has a chance to put even more ground between themselves and the Flames who currently sit 5th.

4 GAME THOUGHTS:

1.) McDraimoto Remains -
I thought that Tippett would return to normal with Draisaitl and McDavid separated after the Ottawa series but he stayed with them in Vancouver and it appears he will do such again tonight. Edmonton is loading up the top line and they will need to be sharp against a Flames team that has done a strong job of limiting chances against in their last two games.

2.) Clean Slate - Certain Flames players have had a chance to start off on the right foot with their new boss. The fourth line of Leivo, Ryan, and Bennett combined for all the goals and points against Montreal in their first game and then Sean Monahan who has struggled to find the back of the net potted two in the second game. These players are gaining some confidence and the Oilers will need to be mindful of that.

3.) RNH In The Spotlight - According to Ryan Rishaug, the Oilers management and the RNH camp have returned to talks. Current estimates range between 6.6.5 million for a contract. We can spend another day discussing whether the former first overall is worth this (he absolutely is) but proving he can score away from the big two will go a long way.

The JP, Ennis, RNH line has played just over 44 minutes at 5 on 5 together this season, scoring one EV goal while not being on the ice for any against. The defensive game is great for this line but they need to produce some more goals and Nuge needs to be the one leading the way.

4.) Avoid The Trap - Sutter Hockey is back in Alberta with the Flames doing a far better job of suppressing shots in their last two games under the new HC. In the past the Oilers have struggled to play against that style of hockey. Edmonton needs to find a way to not get overly frustrated and generate more than just off the rush.
