Beniers, Dunn, Karlsson, Soucy, and the Draft |

Good morning everyone. The NHL Draft starts tonight. Here is what we know right now about the Seattle Kraken.
BENIERS
First of all a big congratulations to Seattle Kraken forward Matty Beniers on his Calder Trophy. The centre had 24 goals, 33 assists and 57 points in 80 games with the Kraken in his first full season. It was an excellent campaign for the rookie and I'm excited to see what he does next season and beyond. Seattle has a heck of a player here.
A few other Kraken players got some Awards love in nominations. Vince Dunn finished 11th in Norris voting, Hakstol finished third in the Jack Adams race. Overall it was a good night that showed some love to some deserving people in this organization.
DUNN
Still no word about the Dunn extension but would not be surprised to see something sorted out there within the next 48 hours. The Kraken need to know what their cap situation is going to be heading into Free Agency and what options are and are not feasible for them. That brings us to...
ERIK KARLSSON
It's a fun idea to think about for a few moments but honestly I have no clue how the Kraken could make this one work. The current Norris winning defenseman would certainly add the puck moving, offensive player on the right side that the Kraken are looking for. The cost to get Karlsson as well as the price tag that would be included does feel too rich to be worth pursuing, especially when the team is about to pay Dunn as a top unit PP player and high end offensive defender. I would rather see the team go after a Ryan Graves type.
CARSON SOUCY
This was one we all knew was coming. It's being reported that Soucy will hit Free Agency and that Seattle will not be signing him. That all being said, there is still a chance that he stays in Seattle. We have seen in the past players test the Free Agency waters just to have the experience and to see what other teams believe they are worth. If the number of years or dollars doesn't blow Soucy away I could still see him turn back to Seattle if they are offering something comparable.
That being said, Soucy is exactly the kind of physical and solid defender that teams overpay for in Free Agency. I expect someone is going to offer him something well north of 3 million.

Currently the Kraken have one pick in the draft tonight in the first round but the team also has 3 second round picks. Do we see Seattle aggressively try to trade up for a second first round pick in a very deep draft? Or does the team use the fact that it is a deep draft to bring in more players with high valued picks? Should be a fun couple days.
