After a valiant effort from the New Jersey Devils in a losing effort against the Boston Bruins, Devils fans got word last night that captain Nico Hischier has a bad bruise on his ankle and not a broken bone.

What a relief.

"Nico was back this morning. Skated lightly on his own," head coach Lindy Ruff said following Wednesday's practice. "He's going to participate in tomorrow's morning skate. The likelihood is if things go well, he should play for us."

Speaking Lindy Ruff, he and Jimmy Vesey have left the COVID-19 protocol and will be tomorrow against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Vesey said that he is “pumped to be back” with the Devils.

Dougie Hamilton had surgery on his jaw today. No word yet on his recovery timeline from the Devils.

The Devils will take on the Blue Jackets tomorrow night at the Rock and Saturday in Columbus. These two back-to-back games are crucial for the Devils as both teams are tied with 31 points in the standings and both five points from a wild card spot. Blue Jackets have three games in hand.

Wear a helmet cage!

After Andreas Johnsson and Dawson Mercer both took a puck to the face last night, maybe the Devils should start providing helmets with a full cage attached. After Hischier suffering an injury last season and now Hamilton, it might be worth the investment!
