The Vegas Golden Knights got it done last night in fine fashion as their role players stepped up in a big way while dominating in all facets of the game. Special teams didn't decide this game with only 3 total powerplays, it was the 5 on 5 play of Vegas that stuck with it for 3 periods. They dominated in the faceoff circle winning 66% of the faceoffs, outshot the Wild 34-20 and most of all, 17 takeaways to just 7 by Minnesota led to some great offensive zone time, wearing down the Wild defense.
Clinching a series on homeice for Vegas was a first but now they face a well rested Colorado Avalanche team starting tomorrow night on a quick turn around for Vegas to gear up for Round 2 of the playoffs. Every hockey fan or media expert talked all season how this was the dream match up and now we have it!
Looking ahead to tonight's games, we have Game 6 with the Leafs/Habs while Boston/NYI start their 2nd round series. It's too bad the NHL messed up by having both games have puck drop a half hour apart, especially on a long weekend when you could've had a 5pm start for either game then an 8pm start for the other game. The NBA has 4 games today and there isn't one game with the same start time. Will the NHL ever get it right?
As for the Leafs game tonight, Toronto is the better team but homeice might prove to be an advantage finally with 2500 fans in attendance in Montreal. They way I see it, I will play the Leafs tonight and if they lose, double or nothing in Game 7.
Boston/NYI was a home dominated series during the regular season with NYI winning their 4 home games vs. the Bruins. In the 4 games at Boston, NYI won the first one in OT, then the Bruins won the next 3 at home. Let's see how Game 1 plays out.
