The Toronto Maple Leafs continued to shuffle their scouting department under new GM Kyle Dubas and divvy up the responsibilities of former Assistant GM Mark Hunter. Late last month, the club promoted Dave Morrison to replace Hunter as Director of Player Personnel.

Former Leaf and current scout Troy Bodie replaced Morrison as Director of Pro Scouting and Wes Clark left the Florida Panthers to become the Leafs assistant Director of Player Personnel.

On Monday, the club announced the promotion of scout John Lilley to take over as Director of Amateur Scouting, another job that Hunter handled in his four year tenure with the Leafs.

Lilley, 45, is a Wakefield, Massachusetts native who played for Team USA in the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer and saw brief time in the NHL as a member of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim from 1994 to 1996.

He has been a member of the Leafs scouting staff since 2006 and under Hunter, Lilley served as head of scouting in the United States, where the Leafs have selected JJ Piccinich, Dakota Joshua, Jeremy Bracco, Auston Matthews, Joseph Woll and JD Greenway over the last five drafts.

There has not been the exodus from the Leafs scouting department of Hunter loyalists Jim Paliafito (Director of Player Evaluation) and Lindsay Hofford (Director of Eastern Area Scouting) that was expected, but the non-compete in Hunter’s contract expires this week and there could be further changes if he is hired by another NHL club.
