With their Stadium Series game against the Nashville Predators scheduled for late February, the Tampa Bay Lightning released the threads they’ll be wearing when they take to the ice:

The trend with Stadium Series jerseys across the league has been to mix bold with old, and the Lightning’s design is no exception. Here, we have the “BOLTS” lettering from third-jerseys-past with a couple minor alterations, mixed with a new and bold base design that retains the team’s blue and white colors.

Reaction to the jerseys on social media was mixed, with some fans loving the new look and others wishing for something more. My personal take on them? I’m a much bigger fan of the reverse retro look from last season than I am of this one, but I do think this is the strongest “BOLTS” jersey the team has revealed since turning to that theme.

One thing we can all agree on, though? The Lightning’s look for the Stadium Series game is going to be a whole lot better than Nashville’s:

Recency bias might be playing a role in my assessment, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to call this the worst jersey in the post-lockout era. It’s… horrendous.

Unfortunately for the Lightning, there are no points for relative style in today’s National Hockey League. They’ll need to play a solid game in their new whites when the time eventually comes in February.

As always, thanks for reading.
