The Toronto Maple Leafs held their 19th annual skills competition on Sunday at the Air Canada Centre. In eight events, it was Team Blue who came away with the 12-10 victory.

The annual skills competition is a chance for Leafs players to have some fun and show off their skills, as well as raise money for charity.

On Sunday, the event raised $90,000 in proceeds that will benefit the MLSE Team Up Foundation and the NHLPA Goals and Dreams Fund. Since it's inception, the Leafs skills competition has raised over $2.9 million for charity.

Here is a recap of the events on Sunday. Video of the challenges can be found here.

Breakaway Challenge

The opening event consisted of Team Blue captain Francois Beauchemin and Team White captain Tomas Kaberle each choosing five teammates to participate in the breakaway challenge.

Clarke MacArthur and Tim Brent of Team Blue scored the lone goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere held Team White scoreless with five saves. Team Blue won the event by a score of 2-0.

Give and Go Puck Control

In the overall relay competition, Team Blue members Clarke MacArthur, Mikhail Grabvoski and Brett Lebda defeated Team White’s Kris Versteeg, Nikolai Kulemin and Carl Gunnarsson.

In the one-on-one challenge, Team White was finally able to earn some points as Phil Kessel edged out Team Blue’s Tyler Bozak.

Fastest Skater

For the second consecutive year, Team White's Nikolai Kulemin holds bragging rights as fastest skater on the Leafs. Kulemin completed the fastest lap of the ice, winning the event this year with a time of 14.067 seconds.

Team White also took the overall event as Mike Brown, Phil Kessel, and Kulemin registered the fastest average time of 14.372 seconds.

Freestyle Shootout

Team White continued to dominate the middle part of the skills challenge, as a celebrity judge panel consisting of Carlton the Bear, Colby Armstrong, and The Blue Crew voted Team White's Phil Kessel, Nikolai Kulemin, and Kris Versteeg as the Freestyle Shootout winners.

Versteeg's baseball shootout move, where he hit the puck out of mid-air with the butt-end of his stick was particularly impressive, earning a nine out of 10 from Carlton, and a perfect score from teammate Colby Armstrong.

Accuracy Shooting

Team Blue answered back in the next challenge as Fredrik Sjostrom of Team Blue hit all four targets on just four shots to record the best individual performance.

Team Blue’s Tim Brent, Clarke MacArthur, and Sjostrom hit 12 targets on 17 shots to defeat Team White’s Phil Kessel, Colton Orr and Luke Schenn who were 7-for-21.

Goalie Goals

Neither goalie was able to score in this event as Team Blue's Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Team White's Jonas Gustavsson were held scoreless.

Power Play Challenge

Team White won the 3-on-1 event, with the trio of rookie Nazem Kadri, and tough guys Colton Orr and Mike Brown scoring three goals. Team White’s other trio of Phil Kessel, Nikolai Kulemin and Kris Versteeg also scored a goal of their own.

Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson of Team White held Team Blue to just three goals in the power play challenge.

Hardest Shot

Team White's Phil Kessel posted the individual hardest shot with a rocket of 99.5 mph.

Team Blue’s John Mitchell, Mike Komisarek, Mikhail Grabovski, and Francois Beauchemin combined to win the team portion of the hardest shot event with an average speed of 95.7 mph.

The Maple Leafs have a chance to show off these skills in game action, when they take on the Nashville Predators on Tuesday at the Air Canada Centre.
