Less than 2 weeks ago, former GM Marc Bergevin tested positive for Covid and yesterday, it was Brendan Gallagher and Sami Niku’s turn. Obviously, neither will be available for tonight’s game and considering the current situation, the Canadiens are effectively back in the bubble. Avoid going out, contacts and all that. Both will need to test negative twice before they can rejoin the team or quarantine for 10 days. As of now, they are both asymptomatic.
Tonight’s guests at the Bell Centre, the Colorado Avalanche were hammered 8-3 by the Maple Leafs last night and chances are they’ll be looking for a big-time bounce back game. With Gallagher and Niku out, Ducharme obviously must make some changes to the line-up and the timing is good for Mathieu Perreault, Chris Wideman and Brett Kulak to be ready to rejoin the fold.
The lines and pairings were as followed at the morning skate:

It looks like the coach is betting on the budding chemistry between Jonathan Drouin and Ryan Poehling as they’ll form the 2nd line with Armia. Furthermore, Poehling’ good work of late has earned him a spot on the first power play unit. According to Ducharme, he deserves more now and since Gallagher is out, they can use his skill set in front and around the net.
I’ll admit that I’m a bit concerned when I see Evans play right wing instead of center to allow Perreault to re-enter the line-up and Caufield relegated to the 4th line right wing. Gallagher is out and the Canadiens’ prized prospect is playing on the 4th line…I’m not crazy about this. Nick Suzuki who’s had a tough time of it of late finds himself saddled with Lehkonen (who has somehow become somewhat of an offensive threat in the last 10 games through sheer work and determination alone) and Evans, clearly, the coach has decided that Suzuki will have to get himself out of this funk before he gets top offensive talent wingers. While one could say what do the Habs have to lose, I dare say they are losing prime development time for guys like Suzuki, Evans and Caufield…We’ll see if Ducharme’s plan can at least net them a win tonight.

Pas de sorties, pas de contacts et tout le bataclan. Les deux joueurs devront recevoir 2 tests négatifs avant de pouvoir rejoindre leurs coéquipiers ou encore rester en quarantaine pendant 10 jours. Pour l’instant, ils ne souffrent d’aucun symptôme.
Les visiteurs de ce soir au Centre Bell, l’Avalanche du Colorado, a encaissé une solide dégelée de 8-3 aux mains des Maples Leafs hier soir et parions que le Colorado voudra rebondir en force. Sans Gallagher et Niku, Ducharme a évidemment dû apporter des changements à sa formation et le « timing » de Mathieu Perreault, Chris Wideman et Brett Kulak pour être prêts à réintégrer la formation est excellent.
À l’entraînement matinal, ce sont les lignes et paires suivantes qui ont été utilisées :

Il semblerait donc que l’entraîneur est prêt à parié sur le début de chimie que l’on a vue commencer à s’installer entre Jonathan Drouin et Ryan Poehling puisqu’ils formeront le 2e trio avec Armia. De plus, Poehling se retrouvera également sur le 1er jeu de puissance, une opportunité méritée considérant les efforts déployés et les performances offertes. Selon Ducharme, il mérite maintenant plus et puisque Gallagher est absent, ils pourront utiliser ses habilités devant et autour du filet.
Je l’avoue, je trouve un peu préoccupant de voir Jake Evans à l’aile plutôt qu’au centre pour permettre à Perreault de réintégrer la formation et Caufield sur la 4e ligne. Gallagher n’est pas disponible et le joueur d’avenir de l’équipe à cette position se retrouve sur la 4e ligne… je ne raffole vraiment pas de cette idée. Nick Suzuki, qui connait sa part de difficultés ces temps-ci, se retrouve flanqué d’Arturri Lehkonen (qui a, apparemment par le biais de travail acharné et de détermination, réussi à devenir une sorte de menace offensive lors des 10 derniers matchs) et Evans. Clairement, le coach a décidé que Suzuki doit se sortir de son passage à vide pour avoir droit à des ailiers de grand talent offensif. Bien qu’on puisse se demander ce que les Habs ont à perdre de toute façon, je crois que la réponse est simple, du temps de développement de première qualité pour Suzuki, Evans et Caufield… Nous verrons si le plan de Ducharme peut au moins leur rapporter une victoire ce soir.
