Updates: Edvinsson and Zach Aston Reese headed to GR, Czarnik on waivers for purpose of reassignment

Defensive prospect Shai Buium has signed his ELC and will head to Grand Rapids. His younger brother is projected to be a potential top 10 pick this year. Shai was said to have potential as a bottom pairing NHLer.

Summary:

4 out of 4 games played against Montreal were settled outside of regulation. Tonight’s was a shootout win for the Wings after a tying goal with less than 4 seconds left. Patrick Kane’s game winning shootout goal was small consolation for a team that fought to overcome a brutal late season slide and came just about as close as a team can come without making the post season.

I’m going to let this breathe for a day, but the team has shown a lot of good things that are happening. Raymond stepped up this year, Seider took another step forward as Detroit’s top D and Larkin clearly held the reins as the captain of the team. While there will be a lot of argument about this, the team has a lot to be proud of including scoring the most goals for the club since 2008-2009.

We know there are extensions and holes to fill with the hope that some prospects are ready for the next step. Still, to be in it until the final minutes of the last game of the season was something very special. It has been a long time since the fan base could be so engaged right to the very end.

We’ll break things down but for tonight, thank you all for reading, participating and watching the team as they continue to strive for better days. The past three games have had all the ups and downs you could ask for as a fan, and some fantastic moments along the way. I hope you got to enjoy some of these high pressure games and remember some of the good times that the team is trying to get back to.

Detroit First Period goals:

Montreal struck first and the tension was on. With just 1:31 left in the first period Seider tied it up. Larkin was able to pick off a pass in the O zone and sent the puck back to Seider. The Dman just walked into the puck a ripped it to tie the score at 1.

Detroit Red Wings Second Period goals:

By 10:09 Detroit was in a 2 goal deficit. 36 seconds later Veleno scored to get back within 1. On a delayed penalty call, Gostisbehere shot the puck on net, the rebound went to Veleno who turned and fired. 3-2 DET

Shots: 24-19 MTL
Score: 3-2 MTL

Third Period Detroit goals

Detroit survived a late 5 on 3 and power play carry over. At 3:31 Sprong got his 18th of the season and tied it up. The puck was in the O zone and Detroit was battling with Montreal for possession. Sprong takes the puck below the goal line and shoots it in. We’ve seen Larkin score below the line and Z back in the day. Such a tough shot for goalies if you can make it happen. 3-3

Montreal had gone up by one and as the seconds ticked down, it looked like this was the end of the season. Then, with 4 seconds left, Perron tied it. After a faceoff with 7.7 seconds left the puck made its way to Gostisbehere who sent it over to Perron. On his off side on the blue line Perron tied the score at 4.

Shots: 38-30 DET
Score: 4-4
