A quick glance at the “last 5 games” section shows Veleno leading the Wings with 5 goals. It was (rightly) brought up that his shooting percentage is insanely high right now and will settle in. As for stats, NYI is ahead of Detroit in faceoffs and goals against. It’s those goals against that concern me about the team. That, and 2 straight games of the opposing team scoring twice in the first and eventually winning the game (WPG in OT, Boston only let in 1 as Swayman was unreal).

Lyon sat backup (can anyone tell me if that changes his timeline to go for 2 weeks to GR to get reps in without penalty?), and goaltending against Boston was decent. A penalty shot by Pastrnak isn’t a standard issue, and an empty net aren’t something I blame the goalies for.

Two straight games have seen a 3rd period of Detroit skating faster and playing harder than they started the game, to the point where they almost looked like a different team. How do they convert that to a start? Hopefully we’ll find out.

The other stuff: (if you hate the “business and broadcast stuff, now is where you should probably stop reading).

In short order, the past 2 weeks have had these interviews and reports:

The Draft was decentralized and there are mixed reviews of what that will look like. From the shut down draft to basically the same except the teams won’t be there. Just a room full of prospects, families, and NHL leadership

Detroit sold “District Detroit” for 9.1 million, and that was a huge part of the presentation for the bond money.

Winnipeg is being said to be having trouble selling tickets but are in “win now” mode.

Now Ottawa is being audited for a trade that happened over a year ago.

Arizona was kicked off of Bally and onto a local network in the same day.

I’ll spare you the ESPN drama, but it’s led to actual fights on the board. We’ll know more next week. There are at least 3 or 4 of you who have figured out how to catch all the games in a single location. I’ve watched on at least 3 channels already this year (Bally, ESPN3 and TNT). If you’re having trouble finding the games put it in the comments and someone can help you out.
