Only 6 games in, things are boding well for Detroit right now. From the responses you are all leaving it’s certainly stirring up early season excitement that hasn’t been this prevalent in a long time. Individual stats that have Debrincat and Larkin as the top 2 in the league in points, Debrincat leads the league in goals, Larkin leads in assists, and Justin Holl leads in +/-. Not what the early going leader boards were expected to look like. Sprong gave some gentle nudges to the press scrum in pregame that the low expectations came from that set. Funny stuff from the new acquisition. As a blogger, I’m happy to be wrong in a case like this. There have been brutal stretches, but the room has an internal believe and wants to prove doubters wrong. It’s honestly shocking to see so much chemistry with so many new faces.

Detroit currently has the #2 power play (recently surpassed by New Jersey) and the team is standing up for each other. Rasmussen’s scrum with Tkachuk was brought up again.

Having 5 wins so far is a good start. If you break down the season into 10 game pieces you’re shooting for 6 wins and 1 OT loss to be in the playoff picture. It’s not always that simple if there are injuries or slumps but so far things look to be on track. At 6 wins in 8 ten game segments you’re looking at 96 points, 100-108 is a tough nugget, but this team seems driven in the early going.

Late start tonight, and Newsie was none too pleased. Detroit may well have a thinner crowd tonight, but the team needs to keep playing hard and find that 6th win. It sounds like Petry is out with an upper body issue.
