There’s no denying that some fans are angry, frustrated, disappointed, etc. some of you are also somewhat optimistic about the group as it morphs. I wanted to list a few stats by year since Yzerman got here. Keeping in mind that 19/20 was a shortened season and the next year was a bit odd as well I’m going to focus more on “in game” stats rather than annual totals
Here is the link I used.
2019-20: gf/gp - 2.0. Ga/gp - 3.73. P.Play - 14.9% P.K. 74.3%
2020-21:gf/gp - 2.23 GA/gp - 3. P. Play - 11.4% PK 78.7%
2021-22: gf/gp - 2.77 Ga/GP - 3.78. P. Play - 16.3% PK 73.8%
2022-23: gf/gp - 2.89 ga/gp - 3.35 P. Play - 21.1% PK 78.3%
2023-24: gf/gp - 3.35 ga/gp - 3.33 p. play - 23.1% PK 79.6%
Ok, so from the first year until the 5th Detroit went from 2 goals for per game to 3.35 with fairly steady climbs
Goals against - still a weak spot, and 2020/21 was the best year at 3. Detroit let in 3.73 in the first Yzerman year and 3.33 this year.
The Power Play - from 14.9%, it dipped to 11.4% and peaked this year at 23.1%
Penalty Kill - up from 74.3% to 79.6%
I understand that doesn’t change the reality that Detroit missed the playoffs. I also feel like the focus on scoring last summer paid off but was offset by defense/goaltending. My hope for the summer is a 2nd line Right side defender to work with Edvinsson.
It was an interesting experiment to go through. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
