Hanifin seems very much in play, but should Wings focus on a right side D? |

Mark Easson writes that the Flames are prioritizing Lindholm but that negotiations are slow. It feels, at this point, that Hanifin will not extend after current deal and in the author’s opinion will be moved.
Hanifin is an interesting case. Dougie Hamilton was a Dman that I really liked and the two had their paths cross during trades. My concern really comes down to making sure we have more than Seider, Holl and Lindstrom available at the NHL level for defense on the right side (right shot). I know there are plenty of fans that don’t think that to be necessary, but I do like having the balance. If, as was suggested, one of the current left side occupants was shipped out in a deal it may be a good fit for Seider.
Of course, the hope is to see a step forward for Edvinsson and rumors of a contract around the 9 million dollar mark could be awaiting Seider (with Raymond doing more of a bridge deal).
Cap Friendly has Anthony DeAngelo, Cal Foote, Matt Dumba and Ethan Bear all listed as unsigned right shot options. DeAngelo has a reputation (whether you agree or disagree) of causing issues. The last one reported is an inability to work well with coach Tortorella. Cal Foote (along with DeAngelo) are both familiar to Yzerman but those two may be the lesser attractive of the bunch. Ethan Bear and Matt Dumba may both have several options with teams that could easily be seen as having more of a chance at post season success.
Fair or not, Holl would seem to be a third line candidate (my opinion) but we’ll see what the camp lineup presents. Either way, the trades and signings should pick up steam again shortly as August inches nearer and players want to know where they will be setting up shop.
Give me your thoughts on Hanifin, a possible right side add (even if it’s an internal option). Let’s see what we can build and if it jives with Yzerman’s camp lineup.
