Summary:

Grand Rapids had 16 shots in the third period, but only 10 in the first two combined. If I’m being honest, The final score and shots don’t reflect the majority of play. The better team won in OT.

The third period spark is baffling. The team is dominated for 40 minutes but comes alive in the final 20. This is more a norm than should be accepted. It looks like two different teams.

Cossa held the team in. Yes, the Griffs dominated the 3rd and 5 mins of overtime. That’s not good enough to erase the horrible starts. Still no Edvinsson, and unless something changes in the room, Friday could be it.

Whoever needs to get the team going isn’t getting it done. The starts have been brutal. The refs have been awful, but that’s not GR’s biggest issue. They have to engage. Even a 40 minute effort could have made the difference. It’s a disappointing place to be but it is on the team to find an answer.

Griffins First Period goals:

No 1st period goal

Shots: 11-4 MIL
Score: 0-0

Griffins Second Period goals:

5 mins in shots 16-4 1-0 MIL

At 11:19 Wallinder scored on the first shot of the period for GR. Outshot 19-5 but 1-1. The team needs to engage. Very lucky to be tied.

Luck ran out as Griffs let one in down 4 on 3. 2-1 MIL

Shots: 21-10 MIL
Score: 2-1 MIL

Griffins third Period goals

At 5:25 Czarnik tied it up as he tapped his own rebound and a sprawled MIL goalie knocked it in. 2-2

Shots: 28-26 MIL
Score: 2-2

OVERTIME

At 4:40 MIL scored

Shots: 30-27 MIL
Score: 3-2 MIL
