Fabbri still isn’t ready and the Czarnik “paper transaction” makes a little more sense. We will be at 2 weeks from Fabbri’s original “comeback date” and a brief practice stint may have confirmed that he’s not ready.
In my last writeup there was some good discussion and I wanted to pull it forward. It looks like Lyon is going to get a 2 week conditioning stint and I don’t think it was off defining the goalie and defense situation as “overstock and see when someone is ready”.
I’m concerned that our GAA is 3.1. Reimer and Husso are the tandem until injury or trade (if that happens). Grand Rapids had what looked like an exciting game that saw a goal at the 20 minute mark in the 3rd lead to an eventual shootout loss. A good friend was able to keep me posted and Edvinsson had a bad turnover/pass that led to a goal against but also got his 3rd of the year. It looks like Cleveland did its damage on the power play for 2 of their 3 goals. Regardless, if goals against and defense don’t solidify a bit more in Detroit I don’t see this team making a “push” having to outscore 3 against on average.
We just got the first 10 done. Detroit did collect 13 points and that’s a plus. Mazur hit the ice in GR last night and apparently came out “like a spitfire” but that is second hand info from someone I do implicitly trust. I’m detecting more than a little frustration with the Grand Rapids squad and hoping things click a bit better in their upcoming contests.
For tonight, unless the power play lights it up and the top line sees 2 or 3 goals, I think a trip to OT may be an honest hoped for scenario. Detroit has had two straight 3rd periods where they looked really good. A start akin to those games endings could well turn the game on its ear and be a fun watch for the Detroit faithful.
