Summary:
There are normally a lot of play by play notes at the end, but this one got a bit out of hand, and X is finally letting me embed videos again. It was a good night for it as Detroit handed Boston their first regulation loss of the season in their 11th game. An unreal start by last year’s President Cup winners went 9-0-1 and is certainly something the team wanted to hold on to.

The end of this one had all the nasty you could want with 3 straight minor penalties to Boston in the final 2 mins (one was a bench minor for disrespecting an official. With some of what was said by players on both teams throughout the night it must have been a doozy). 4 players were sent to early showers, and it was probably a good thing for Larkin. He had a nasty spill into the boards earlier in the game but has played through injury before. He was clearly not feeling 100% by the end but made a solid go of it.

The power play clicked for 2 of Detroit’s 5 goals after some changes were made. Walman is really getting some hard shots to the net, nearly hit triple digits tonight with a shot that clocked around 99.7 but his power play goal clocked around 89. Just well placed. His celly will get a 6.5 out of 10 from the skating judges.

The WingsWings did try to shake things up a bit for the opening faceoff tonight. It clearly hasn’t been lost on the team that slow starts have been an issue. Without a late power play goal Detroit would have ended the first down 2-0. Detroit let in 4 but were able to come out on top. Seider, Walman and Gostisbehere have all made some solid plays. Maata has had some rough moments and ultimately, Husso has to make more stops. Not a rip, just an observation. The team needs to go the goals against down a bit and it will clearly be a full team effort to do it.

To Boston’s credit, they kept a lot of plays alive and were able to create chances on the rush off of smart defensive zone plays. To Detroit’s credit, they kept going and found a way to get the passing lanes open (and yes, Boston was missing some important blue line presence). Tuesday Detroit will play another hot team in the Rangers who are 8-2-0 averaging 3 scored and letting in 1.9 per game. The East has tough teams. It’s going to be tough sledding to find a way into the post season. Detroit has some solid people in place and need to focus on the Dzone drop off. A good win, but as Perron acknowledged in his presser with Compher, it was 1 win. A lot of excitement for the fans on site and a lot still to come together. Good to see Copp get one and hopefully this helps his confidence. That line had some excellent looks tonight.

First Period Detroit goals:

Wings back to power play with 4:14 left after Larkin took a high stick. 33 seconds in Detroit re enters the zone and Raymond was wide open in the lower right faceoff circle. A beautiful no look pass from Perron and Raymond gets past Ullmark on Detroit’s 13th shot of the game. 2-1 BOS.

Score: 2-1 BOS
Shots: 14-12 DET

Second Period Detroit goals:

Walman rips a clean one timer from his off side after a beautiful feed from Seider on the power play. Seider now tied as 2nd fastest Wings Dman to 90 points (176 games) with Lidstrom.

Score: 3-2 BOS
Shots: 31-21 DET

Third Period Detroit goals:

At 6:50 Larkin ties it up, collecting a pass from Raymond at the blue line, driving the net and shooting left while skating right. All at the end of 1:26 in ice time for that shift. 3-3. 34-26 shots DET.

At 8:56 Perron gets the lead. 35-35 shots DET.

At 11:34 Copp scores. 5-3 37-27 shots DET

Wings win 5-4 DET
Shots: 40-30 DET
