A couple of thoughts - if Dekeyser is destined for the taxi squad, someone will have to come off. Biega and McIlrath are the current defensemen assigned there. Detroit already has 10 mil in cap space, this will add 1 mil. They are at 22 of 23 on the roster. Even if Bertuzzi was coming back the move wasn’t “necessary”. If this is truly about continued rehab, Taxi squad would make the most sense. GR would be an option if he was ready for action. I’m really not sure where this one ends up.

Detroit beat Nashville during the sequel last night. As of right now, Dekeyser has been placed on waivers. I’m trying to dig a bit. Stay tuned. Montreal also waived Paul Byron. Not related, but interesting. Par Lindholm waived by Boston for contract termination. He’s apparently already signed a multi year deal overseas.

There are “indications” that djoos has surpassed Dekeyser, but a slow recovery from injury seems just as likely the culprit.

Dekeyser on waivers

a href="https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2021/02/red-wings-waive-veteran-defenseman-danny-dekeyser.html">Mlive’s is relating the waive to a slow recovery. This open flexibility in assigning him to taxi squad or GR. With a contract that expires after next season, I don’t know if Yzerman will waive again for buyout. They may give Dekeyser the option to sit or play in GR.
