Summary:
Well, the team is 4 and 0 going 11 and 7, maybe keep it rolling. Very low traffic night for Lyon, and the team started on time. 3 goals in 72 seconds was insane, and I did feel a little bad for the Hughes family. They didn’t have a great time, but the guys in the turkey suits were shakin’ their giblets.

This felt like a game the group needed. When New Jersey turned it up Detroit looked ready (and had a good couple of bounces). It was fun to see the group look calm and satisfied after a tough trip. Very happy for the group, Walman looked good. It would do a lot for Copp to get a couple friendly bounces, but he keeps at it.

It was a fun, steady game and it looked like a mature team in the third that was willing to run the clock and keep at it. It will be interesting to see if any of this carries over when they face Boston. The Bruins are definitely a team that can get you off your game and that’s what New Jersey didn’t accomplish tonight.

Pro sports meets the 3 day car trip game of “I’m not touching you”….you snap. It’s a razor’s edge that the athletes who play in the top league walk. When things get a bit messy, a young David Perron was going to the box or heading for the showers. The veteran David Perron can walk that line and it’s a coin toss.

You need the players to be in peak form, adrenaline pumping, and yet completely in control. Tonight was one of those games where we saw an explosion of offense as well as the football style play of allowing time to wind down. In reality, a goal post could have been the final exasperation. We’ve seen it, that one goal that no one celebrates but they start skating a little harder. Then one more, now the deficit is two. We’ve been on both sides of that narrative even in this early part of the season.

In the end, the Devils dumped the puck with a couple of ticks left on the clock and two teams headed to their respective hallways. An exciting win, but a win that ended with a team maintaining composure and controlling the throttle. That was a small glimpse back to another time. Players that could just cause the opposition to melt holes in the ice out of frustration as they played keep away.

Tonight was a good night. A lot to enjoy, and the hope that the team felt something change. Every few interviews Seider seems to grow a little bit more. Lyon looked happy, but composed. It was a good night at the pizza palace.

First Period Detroit goals:
Raymond opens up the scoring

Larkin Scores 20 seconds later

Fabbri makes it 3-0 52 seconds later

First Period:

At the 7 minute mark Wings are outshooting Devils 6-4 and on the power play. A good look by Raymond, some good keep ins but no goals. Wings did start on time but NJ has a lethal power play. Have to be disciplined.

At 16:58 Raymond and Fabbri get a 2 on 1 and Raymond stays hot getting his 4th in 4 games. 1-0 Detroit.

20 seconds later Larkin scores as Debrincat and Perron make some nice plays to get the puck to the captain. 2-0 DET.

At 18:10 Fabbri scores after Veleno passed to Sprong whose shot bounced right to Fabbri. 3-0 DET. 3 goals in about 72 seconds.

Score: 3-0 DET
Shots: 11-8 DET

Second Period Detroit goals:
Seider’s last second power play goal

Second Period:

At 7:05 Detroit goes to the power play. Score still 3-0. A little overpassing (Sprong, Veleno) but clear the team is trying to come together. With just 1 second left it looks like Seider ripped a beauty. 4-0 DET. Shots 17-10.

Detroit managed to kill off the best power play in the league right now. Copp had a really good look. A good bounce would do a lot for his confidence right now.

Score: 4-0 DET
Shots: 21-14 DET

Third Period Detroit goals:
No Third Period goals

Third Period:

Detroit skating in with a 4-0 lead and Lyon looks pretty good. Let’s see how this goes.

Detroit to the power play at 4:35. They’ve played fairly tentatively and trying to make smart plays. NJ is going to start bringing it. I understand being in a defensive posture but wear them down if you can.

Detroit back on the power play at around the 9 minute mark. Jersey is getting scrappy and Detroit needs to bury them if they can.

New Jersey about to head to the advantage with 8:07 left.

Wings kill it off and finally clear the zone. 5:45 left. Shots 26-18 DET.

Detroit is just keeping the clock ticking. 2:55 left. Still 4-0 as Hughes came close earlier but hit the post. Detroit is in the driver’s seat right now. Shots 27-16.

19 seconds left. Shots 27-16 and Detroit up 4-0. Not bad.

4-0 DET
