Ekman-Larson Avoids Serious Knee Injury + Cutz and Cutz

After a great start to training camp which saw the Coyotes add defenseman Jason Demers to give themselves one of the best groups of defensemen in the NHL, things were looking up.

Then, all that almost went to the dumpster when unquestioned franchise cornerstone Oliver Ekman-Larson collided with ex-Coyote Mikeal Boedker and hurt his knee.

The knee appears to be fine and Craig Morgan is reporting that there is no structural damage, so all is well. Still, it's crazy how you can build a pretty awesome team on paper and almost have it collapse completely before a single game is played. Such is the capriciousness of professional sports.

In fact, I think fans in general vastly underestimate the weight injuries have on the standings. Basically, as long as you ignore the teams with terrible rosters, the healthiest team is going to to have the best chance of winning.

You can have all the leadership and character you can shake a stick at, but in the end, there is so much parity in the NHL (due mostly to the salary cap) that whichever team is healthiest is going to have by far the best chance to win.

That isn't always the case - as the Penguins showed last year - but it's usually the case. The Coyotes have a small chance to make the Playoffs this year, but without OEL that drops to basically zero.

Tobias Reider is back after spraining his ankle last year in the Worlds. Reider hasn't hit the ice for training camp yet, but he's been cleared to play. I'm not the biggest fan, but a lot of people think he's pretty good and so I hope he does well and proves me wrong.

Certainly if his defense is even half as good as some people make it out to be he can be a valuable player.

Cuts and cutz.

The Coyotes cut some guys.

Yesterday, they cut 11 players. These included Kyle Capobianco and Dysin Mayo. Neither was expected to make the team, but just the fact that there is a nine percent chance you've heard of the players being cut means we're getting closer to the season.

Today, they cut three more. Among these, Tyler Guadet. That means - by my count - 34 players still in camp. So about 11 more cuts.

Final rosters are due October 3rd.

Just got through my four pack of Steven Seagul DVDs and I can't say enough about them. I got Under Siege (Subs) Fire Down Below ( excessive groin shots and Steve plays an EPA agent who knows karate and packs like nine awesome coats to go to Kentucky in the middle of the summer ) Above the Law (so, so good) as well as the classic Damon Wayen's vehicle the Glimmer Man (Stephen plays an eastern philosophy loving, bead wearing shaman of some sort).

Collectively, these are some of the best films ever made. And all it cost me was five bucks!! A lot of people like Seagul ironically, but I sincerely think he's great.

You gotta see the Glimmer Man if nothing else.

Thanks have a great day!
