Ryan Snow: On Eklund’s Jordan Kyrou Rumour |

The Habs have locked up their D, but according to rumours and the obvious, they are still in the market for a top six forward. Ideally, it would be a centre, but a high impact winger would also be a welcome addition.
Jordan Kyrou is being mentioned everywhere at this point, and it does not take me to tell you that acquiring him would do much to bolster the Hab’s scoring depth and puck control in the offensive zone.
In Kyrou, you have a balanced offensive forward who can score and make plays fairly consistently. In the last four NHL seasons he has averaged about 70 points with an even balance between goals and assists. So there is a low risk of his production suddenly dropping off and he is in his prime years at 27 years old. Also, he would fit the Hab's system splendidly.
Where this one gets tricky is what are the Habs willing to give up in order to acquire him? Reports say the Blues want a top six forward in return , but I don’t see Hughes trading Cole, Suzuki, Slav or Demidov so that leaves a big question mark here.
The only other forward who fits this category somewhat is Laine, but with one year left on a big contract, pending UFA status, age and the direction the Blues are going, I don’t see that move making any sense at all. The Habs do have some D prospects they could part with, but this does not seem to be what the Blues are looking for. Also offering Beck or Roy or both with a first rounder is just not enough in my opinion but I’m no GM so who knows. With Kyrou’s no trade clause taking effect on July 1 this may put some pressure on the Blues to take the best offer, but at the end of the day, they might just be better off keeping him.
Have a good Sunday! It’s a beautiful day today so get outside!
