The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: The Good Report Cards Forwards
2024-25 Devils “The Good” Forward Report
Cards.
Stay tuned for grades on “The Bad” and “The Ugly” Forwards, plus the Defense, Coaching, Management and even on myself, your NJ Devils Hockey Buzz beat writer…
Nico Hischier: A+
The Selke Trophy candidate snub was incredible for New Jersey all season. Nico scored a career high 35 goals, while often matching other teams top lines. The Devils’ Captain had a strong playoff and is a true leader both on and off the ice.
Jesper Bratt: A+
Another phenomenal season by the 26 year old Swede. Bratt’s explosive skating and agility has continued to improve season by season and ranks him among the elite skaters in all of hockey. His 88 points led the Devils in scoring.
Jack Hughes: A
Hughes was a dynamic play driver when healthy this season. Jack has continued to improve in all areas of his game. When he came back from Four Nations, Hughes seemed to unlock an even higher level of compete. Unfortunately that stint was short lived and 86’s season was 86’d with a shoulder injury yet again. If he remained healthy an A+ grade would’ve been inevitable.
Timo Meier: B+
Meier had a solid season all around and was very effective in the playoffs for New Jersey. While the scoring will most likely never return to his point per game output in his last full season with San Jose, Timo brings more to the table now than ever before. His large frame and bull like mentality keeps the opposition uncomfortable at all times.
Cody Glass: B+
The glass is half full on the former 6th overall pick. Just two seasons removed from a 35 point campaign with Nashville, Glass would slot nicely as a 4C with NJ next year. He gave a sinking Devils team a jolt of energy with his trade deadline arrival and deserves a chance to return. Expect Tom Fitzgerald to reward Glass with just that.
Paul Cotter: B
Upon entering the season, expectations for Cotter were a bit low. Then Devils fans saw the speed and skill of #47 on full display. DJ Paulie C started out red hot, with five goals in his first seven games as a Devil. He would then score just twice over his next 31 contests. Like many of the Devils bottom six, Cotter lacked consistency and was missing on the score sheet too often.
