Devils Bottom Six Blowup Begins As Haula Sent To Nashville: Vhris Shaleesh |

So it begins, the breakdown and reconstruct of a Devils team that severely lacked scoring depth in 2024-25. An eager Tom Fitzgerald wasted no time getting to work, shipping an underperforming and all too often invisible, Erik Haula to Nashville. The 34 year old Haula had just 21 points this past season. The habitually snake bitten Fin and his major goal droughts head to the Predators for prospect Jeremy Hanzel and a fourth round pick. However it’s the $3.15m in cap space that comes back as the cornerstone of this deal.
With approximately $14m in open cap space as of today, the Devils(who are not done selling off poor contracts) are set up nicely for a bottom six renaissance. Shedding the contracts of Dougie Hamilton, 3 years left at $9m, and Ondrej Palat, 2 years left at $6m, could really put NJ in great shape for a 2025 UFA shopping spree. In order to do so the Devils may have to get creative, something Fitzgerald will have no problem doing. Expect a very active draft day and free agency period this summer, and a bigger, stronger, better Devils team in the fall.
