Unbelievable game tonight. A game that lived up to the billing. Another classic chapter added to the Canada/USA Hockey Novel. These teams could play on ten nights and each would win five. On this particular night, it was team USA winning 2-0.
This Team Canada was as good as any. Tonight was the first time the Canadian team gave up an even strength goal in the tournament. It was the first time Team Canada trailed in the tournament.
It was an epic performance by Spencer Knight in goal for the Americans. It took a complete team effort by Team USA who outplayed Canada for the first half of the game, during one long stretch out-shooting the Canadiens 15-2.
Team Canada faced adversity for the first time and but tonight they maybe waited a little too long before starting to dump the puck in on the Americans. It became clear early on that keeping Canada from scoring off the rush was a huge part of USA’s game plan. Finally, late in the second period, the Canadiens grew frustrated and started dumping the puck in and working their forecheck.
Canada’s defense did a fantastic job at pinching and keeping the cycle going, but Knight proved too perfect on this evening.
It was a hell of a tournament and has to have you fired up for one week from now...when the NHL skates again!
