The Lightning has never been afraid to make deals when they feel they can't re-sign a player. Meanwhile, Steven Stamkos, the greatest Bolt of all time, isn't signed past this season and there is not even a hint of an extension in the works...as of now..
Does Tampa have the stomach to move such a popular player. Especially right now, as they are very much fighting for a playoff spot...and Stamko is better than a point per game...37 points in 35 games..
When it comes to Stamkos there is very much a storm brewing...They really don't want to lose their star for nothing on July 1, not to mention the creativity that would have to come into play as other GMs look at his $8.5M salary..
Who would be interested?
Well of course there has always been a feeling Steve would at some point pull on the Blue and White sweater he grew up worshipping in Toronto...the Leafs would have to move Nylander to make that happen, another expiring contract...could a swap happen? I would imagine both teams would want to talk to the player agent to see if
The other team that is rumored to be sniffing around right now is the New Work Rangers...Would they follow the path they followed last year when bringing in Kane right before the deadline?
Finally the LA Kings are absolutely hunting for a sniper up front....
Of course Stamkos has a NMC, so he'd have to approve any deal that comes down the pike. He is the kind of player who would likely not block a deal to a contending team...
CANADA UPSET AT THE WORLDS
The quarter finals are under way at the WJC in Sweden, and we have already seen one of the biggest upsets in International hockey history.. Team Canada, the tourney favorite, has been shockingly upset by the Czechs 3-2 with a goal with 17 seconds to go.
