Montreal “Buyers?” Of course. |

It makes a lot of sense actually.
The Canadiens are not the kind of team that wants to build slowly through the draft, and this is a highly educated fanbase whom knows it now finds itself in a very unique situation.
These are the Montréal Canadiens. Many have called them the Yankees of the NHL. Even though they are still a few years from being super competitive, and even though the taxes in the city are terrible on high income athletes, this is a place where players will go to play. This is still a sweater that players dream about pulling over their heads…
This is a team that find itself in a situation most teams aren’t in currently.….with cap space now and moving forward. and this means options….Remember this isn’t a market that struggles to support hockey. The Canadiens actually support two entirely separate medias and the largest TV revenue in the sport.
I talked to a source in Montreal this morning who kind of nailed it. The source said to look at Seattle and Vegas and what they showed a team can do with cap space…The Canadiens have over 10M in space right now, and they have Caufield and Suzuki tied up for less than $16M Combined until the ‘30s. They have even more money coming off next year and the year after and yet they have roster players signed…..so they have a position of strength…
Who are they looking for? I am told they are looking to grab a bonafide first pairing d-man at the deadline or in the summer…. One player I have now heard linked to Montreal…through several sources…is Jakob Chycrun. Chycrun willl be a UFA after 24-25. He is making less than 5 until then….
“He is the age and skill set the want to add on the defensive end of things…”
Big week ahead! Rumor Chart is looming!
