Not much going on in the rumor world today. I have made a couple of calls that could lead to some interesting stuff that I could write about tomorrow….

So today, I thought I would get back to one of my favorite things to do….. a concept stolen from the old Hockey Digest Magazine I read when I was a kid where two players would be compared to determine who is better…

Who is Better?
Tim Stutzle or Cole Caufield.

Age:
Stutzle: 23
Caufield: 24

Size…
Stutzle: 6’0 192
Caufield: 5’8 175

Stats Last year:
Tim Stutzle
GP: 82
G: 24
A: 55
PTS: 79

Cole Caufield
GP: 82
G: 37
A: 33
PT: 70

Stutzle is averaging nearly a point per game for a third straight season and is a very creative playmaker.
Caufield is a strong possession player, with a +9 rating, and led Montreal in goals during the 2024‑25 season.

Who is better?

Both are dynamic…and provide different skill sets…
Stutzle is a playmaker and facilitator center driving all-situations offense.
Caufield is a specialized goal-scorer, elite in finding and finishing high-danger chances.

Defensively: Stutzle is considered stronger; however, Tim was even in plus/minus, while Caufield was a +9 despite scoring 9 less points.

My Opinion>
We’re probably talking about two of the top five forwards under 25 years old in the NHL here…
Stutzle has a very strong IQ and shifted from left-wing to center last year permanently.
Caufield really got screwed by not being put onto the USA team for the four nations.

Sometimes when comparing two players, you have to look at who’s more unique…. Who is the harder player to replace in a lineup?

Eklund> That’s why to me the answer here is Cole Caufield is better than Tim Stutzle. But it is very close.

Other HockeyBuzz Writer’s Opinions…

Jay Tuk>
Stutzle is far and away the better player and more valuable player. Stutzle plays a premium position and is more committed to a two-way game. He also led the league in drawn penalties.

Luke ravitz>
Caufield…Stutzle more replaceable. Not a lot of players with the skill and shot that Cole Caufield has for his size. Can’t teach that.

Ryan Snow:
All around Stuzle is better. More skill, size and reads the game extremely well and makes sick passes. Cole amazing shot, finds dead zones, great teammate and can be clutch. But in the end its Tim.

Chris Shaleesh>
I’m going with the American.
