With the draft tonight, we’ve officially reached the era of following overseas content to find out the dirt on foreign-born players playing in the United States and Canada! Lucky for you, I don’t speak Czech…(did you know the Czech language was originally called “Bohemian?” In fact, calling the Czech Republic “Bohemia” is a bit like calling the Netherlands “Holland.” Let’s get out of this rat hole…..)
Anyway, according to a Czech source (who didn’t appear to have a bluecheckmark…but I check on the validity of the article and it checked out) there is a Spicy Meatball rumor today that David Pastrňák, who is pretty much the opposite of a checking forward, is willing to consider waving his no trade clause to be moved to Florida….last anyone checked.

OK, sorry…. No more puns… got very little sleep…trying to keep things light… OK, yes. The Panthers would want a player of his skill level, and of course, Brad and David are good buddies…
Maybe the Cup moving man should just move to West Palm Beach…. A 3rd cup is all at certain..

From all I can tell, the Ekblad contract is very on and off. It’s still being worked out and it might not get there. Which, while it sounds like exciting news, is really how contacts work…
One of my managers, our repeat is: When You Hear A Rumor, Find The Motivation. Teams rarely spread rumors to media people just because they like reporter… or just for the hell of it.
So yesterday,when the news hits that the contract may have issues, and today we read in the Czech news David Pastrňák, has told a reporter, in his native tongue, the shocking revelation that he would “consider” waving his no-trade clause to leave a rebuilding Bruins team and be open to play with his good friend Brad on the two-time Cup champion winning team from always sunny, tax-free Florida…. It feels like maybe this isn’t a big rumor at all but more of a statement of true logical facts…
Given that the draft is tonight and UFA Day is Tuesday, I really don’t have time to poll the NHL players and find out if anyone else would be willing to waive to become a Panther I’m can’t safer fact any of them would….. It might be easier to see if any of them WOULD NOT….
Bill Zito, Paul Maurice, Matthew Tkachuk, and company have really built quite a popular destination for players to come to…. In fact, this isn’t even the first time we’ve heard that someone wants to play for ONLY the Panthers over the last couple of years. Prior to this, Claude Giroux and Brad Marchand basically handpicked Florida, when it came to waving their clauses at the deadline.
So despite this probably amounting to a whole lot of nothing, it would be crazy to say never. Florida finds ways. We are talking about Zito here, and we are talking about a guy who players adore and a guy who better damn well FINALLY win the GM of the year this year.
So instinct and experience tells me I can’t just sit here and say it’s impossible…
Because who knows what happens next? negotiations can go wrong or right….and suddenly there is room… someone ends up on LTIR, someone joined the monastery I don’t know….
I don’t think it’s gonna happen, but I also wouldn’tbet against Florida pulling something off and landing DP88.

Things have been absolutely crazy this year, but I get the sense that not much will be announced today during the day because of what I wrote yesterday…. Teams are going to want to announce things tonight at their draft parties. These draft parties are basically pep rallies, and pep rallies need content.
