Crowdsourcing: Who would you rather sign:Bennett or Marner?

Just a quick thought today as I’ve been having this conversation with a lot of people on the phone while I recover from this concussion/accident…. I’m going to keep this short because screens aren’t my friends right now, but I am of the belief that Sam Bennett might be actually more valuable to a team trying to get themselves going than Mitch Marner would be. I don’t know where the Panthers are with negotiations with Bennett. I know at one point they were close, it seemed like, but in these playoffs, his stock is definitely on the rise. So it is entirely possible that Florida simply can’t afford him this summer. I know they’ll make every effort they can to convince him in this day, but if someone’s offering him eight or nine or $10 million…..

There’s no doubting Mitch Marner’s abilities and point scoring prowess. I do think if you take both of these players out of their current situation, Bennett would bring more to a team rebuilding than Marner might. Marner is at his best with players to pass to and make plays with, where Bennett seems to be able to create more on his own…

Sam Bennett is also a way more annoying and physical force. His play definitely lifts up a team.

So I wonder who’s going to be more valuable this summer. Maybe it’s dependent on what kind of team signs them…..but the teams that have the kind of money to sign these players if they leave their current teams seem to be teams that would benefit more from Bennett to me.

Let’s talk about this in the comments….. and thanks again for the well wishes.
