Are these Oilers actually BETTER than last years team? Accident Update

I will be the first to admit that I thought, heading into these playoffs, that these Oilers wouldn’t come anywhere near the success they saw last year when going to a Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals. They just didn’t have the depth and they really seemed to be playing completely out of sync hockey going down the stretch. Their goaltending was more messed up than usual, which is saying something.

As a rumor guy, my focus was actually switched to “Would McDavid sign long-term in Edmonton again, or, would the lack of goaltending and the lack of depth around him cause him to seek greener pastures?”

Following Game Two of the LA series, I would’ve bet the house on Edmonton not getting out of that round……and after that, I figured an even more talented Vegas team would take them out swiftly and painlessly. But this Oilers team has now come back to win six straight games… that’s an NHL record. It was already an NHL record when they came back and won their fifth straight.

So this is starting to get creepy, movies-style “Team of Destiny” stuff here…..beyond typical hockey logic, and more into basically McDavid might just be too good for this league.

We’ll find out more tonight, as far as I’m concerned, the Oilers are, “can’t miss TV”at this point. I know if you’re on the East Coast to these games run crazy late so at least tape them so you can see the endings the next morning because they’re all spectacular and we never know what’s gonna happen.

ON MY INJURY…

Also, I deeply wanted to thank you readers out there who sent me well wishes via my email eklund@hockeybuzz after hearing about my accident that occurred on Wednesday midday.

Also, the rumors of my death are only partially exaggerated….lol. I came really close. The closest I’ve ever come. I was riding my electric scooter at like 15 miles an hour in the clearly marked bike lanes of Ventnor NJ, when a motorcycle guy qttempted to pass the car that was next to me on the right. He was driving way too fast for this busy street now by the beach, and when he tried to pass the car ahead of him on the right, it moved him into the clearly green pavement of the bike lane and then directly into my scooter.’’’

Apparently, I spun out. My helmet went directly into a pole, breaking in half . At least that’s what I’m told because I don’t remember any of it…. I just remember waking up in the hospital ambulance, being told what it happened, and that I was on my way to Atlantic City hospital. I also couldn’t feel a lot of my right side, and my right shoulder was killing me…. After several tests, it was determined that I had a severe concussion, a broken clavicle, and a broken rib, and something messed up with my back because my right leg was really numb. Getting the back tested this week at Rothman..

My riding helmet literally saved my life…. So please take heat and wear a helmet if you’re biking or on a scooter or anywhere that could potentially be dangerous..

Since the accident, I can only listen to hockey, and I’m dictating this into my computer because, as many of you might know, concussions and screens don’t work very well together.

I’m doing OK. I’m back home but honestly in the worst pain I’ve ever been in. If I breathe, the rib hurts; if I move, my clavicle hurts. And if I look at things, usually I get very nauseous all of a sudden from my concussion…

However, this hockey guy will live to see another day!

And I can’t wait for tonight’s games! Do yourself a favor and hug the people you love today and just tell them you love them. You just never know when or if you will ever see them again./.
