Coach Todd Richards

Preds PR yesterday afternoon broke the news that Coach Todd Richards suffered a heart attack on Friday, October 1. Thankfully he will make a full recovery and is doing well. We wish all the best to Coach Richards and his family and hope to see him back on the bench soon.

Mark Borowiecki
The Athletic’s Adam Vingan had a nice article about Borowiecki and his ongoing struggles with mental health throughout his career depicting a particular incident following a penalty he took in Tampa Bay last season. This is a powerful story and I applaud players like this coming out of their comfort zone and expressing their true selves. Mental health is critical, especially in the age of COVID, social media, etc. If you remember, Colin Wilson wrote a powerful piece in the Player’s Tribune a few years ago about his own struggles with OCD. The Things You Can’t See Colin Wilson October 29, 2020 The recent conversations that are stirring with Robin Lehner, whether you agree or disagree on the tactics, only strengthen the need to have the human’s well-being take priority over the player’s because only if the human is at peace can the player truly demonstrate their ability. As I have written on multiple occasions, off ice is critical to what occurs on ice.

Opening Night Roster in Sight

We now have a few players remaining who are competing for the opening night roster spot. There is genuine competition here in my opinion, so I am excited to see how it shapes out. It will be tough to see some of the young blood let go for another year, but one thing Poile has proven to be strong at is not rushing individuals to the NHL until they are ready. For our sake, let’s hope he finds trial by fire to be warranted soon as I think the hockey knowledge and skill are there for the remaining players. As I wrote in my last piece, it seems like the speed to which these players act is just a tad behind. But you only gain the speed from playing against better players, not dominating those who aren’t quite there with your speed. Time will tell.

The players below were assigned to Milwaukee yesterday.

Devin Cooley – 1 – G

David Farrance – 22 – D

Matt Donovan – 46 – D

Josh Healey – 50 – D

Tommy Novak – 82 – F

Anthony Richard – 93 – F

5 Preds Sent to Waivers in Hopes of Joining Milwaukee

Matt Tennyson – 7 – D

Frederick Allard – 72 – D

Rem Pitlick – 16 – F

Matt Luff – 24 – F

Cole Smith – 36 – F

These players are required to clear waivers prior to joining Milwaukee. I anticipate Pitlick and Allard wearing gold at times this season if we are so lucky to have them clear. They’ve had their moments of glory showing great signs of progress and their ability to hang with the big boys. However, these assignments were of no immediate surprise as I see other players on the current roster of whom I fancy to have a stronger showing and higher production.

Preds-Lightning Stadium Series
Tickets go on sale to the general public October 21. The logo has been released by the NHL with jerseys to be announced at a later date. Preds-Lightning Stadium Series Logo

Excited to see what they come up with. Hopefully it’s a bit more innovative than the previous design. I didn’t mind them, but didn't love them either. Something different would be nice to mix it up.

Final Notes

The Preds have two more pre-season games remaining, both against Carolina. The first is tonight, October 5, at 6pm CST in Carolina and the second is Saturday, October 9, at 3pm CST in Nashville. Then it’s time for the Kraken on October 14! Both games may be heard on 102.5 locally in Nashville, on Bally Sports South in the local market, and for those outside of the greater Nashville area, on ESPN +. Because ESPN is back in hockey and I cannot wait for this either!

I’ll try to have short morning hits like this from time to time throughout the season for stories I found interesting and of which I think you all would too. If you prefer discussion of certain things, then leave comments and I will be sure to research further into those issues to bring you what you love to read.
