1)Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus (May 20 edition): A special #AskBilly edition of Flyers Daily to discuss the latest regarding Matvei Michkov, how an early arrival by Michkov changes things this offseason and beyond, Kolosov's future in North America and tons of Flyers Twitter questions with fully elaborated responses. Watch the 48-minute episode below.
2) Snider Cup golf tournament: A number of Flyers Alumni, including Flyers Hall of Famers Bernie Parent and Joe Watson, will participate on Monday in the opening round of the 2024 Snider Cup Open: a series of one-day team competitions over a four-month span. Monday's event is being held at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA.
Watson will participate in a Flyers foursome with John LeClair, Todd Fedoruk, and Neil Little. Parent will also attend and share stories of the Flyers' two Stanley Cup victories. Flyers anthem singer, Lauren Hart, will sing the "Star Spangled Banner" ahead of the shotgun start. Flyers public address announcer, Lou Nolan, will introduce golfers to the crowd as they tee off from the first hole, and team broadcaster Jim Jackson will do play by play.
All proceeds benefit Snider Hockey and Education.
3) 2024 IIHF World Championships: Team Sweden (Samuel Ersson) will look to improve their Group B preliminary round record to a perfect 6-0-0 on Monday when they take on Team France in Ostrava. Coming off a 10-1 blowout win over Kazakhstan on Sunday, Team USA (Joel Farabee) is idle on Monday. The Americans have posted a 4-1-1 record thus far.
4) Today in Flyers History: May 20
* 1975: The infamous "Fog Game" at the Aud in Buffalo (Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final) ends on a Rene Robert goal at 18:29 of overtime. With a 5-4 win, the Sabres narrow the Flyers' lead in the series after Philly won the first two games at the Spectrum.
* 1987: The Edmonton Oilers take a two games to none lead in the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-2 overtime home win in Game 2. Second period goals by Derrick Smith (6th of the playoffs) and Brian Propp (10th) sent the Flyers to a 2-1 lead after two periods. Glenn Anderson tied the game midway through the third period. In overtime, Rick Tocchet hit the post on a slap shot from just inside the blueline. At the 6:50 mark, Jari Kurri ended the game with his 12th goal of the playoffs.
* 1997: The Flyers take a two games to one lead over the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final with a 6-3 win at Madison Square Garden in Game 3. Eric Lindros leads the way with a hat trick.Petr Svoboda, Rod Brind'Amour and Trent Klatt also score for Philly.
* 2000: The Flyers take a three games to one lead in the Eastern Conference Final with a 3-1 road victory. Mark Recchi (6th goal of the playoffs), Craig Berube (1st), and Simon Gagne (5th) score for the Flyers, while Brian Boucher stops 24 of 25 shots. In addition to his goal, Gagne helped set up Recchi's first period tally. A Bobby Holik goal midway through the second period briefly tied the score at 1-1.
* 2024: The Flyers force a seventh and deciding game in the Eastern Conference Final with a dramatic 5-4 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The victory is highlighted by Keith Primeau (two goals, game-winning assist) forcing OT with 1:49 remaining in the third period before Simon Gagne won it at 18:18 of sudden death with his second tally of the game. Sami Kapanen also scores for Philly, while former Flyers winger Ruslan Fedotenko scores twice for Tampa Bay.
* 2010: The Flyers lone defeat in the Eastern Conference Final came in this 5-1 road loss in Game 3. Simon Gagne (7th of the playoffs) scores the lone Philadelphia goal.
