Quick Hits: September 18, 2023
1) Rookie Camp resumes this morning at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees. The players will be on the ice at 11 a.m. EDT. Before the rookie practice stats. the veterans will practice with no coaches on the ice. Below is the schedule for the rest of the week after today.
TUE Sept 19: Rookie Camp practice 11 AM
WED Sept 20: NHL Camp physicals -- no on-ice work
THU Sept 21: NHL Camp skating tests -- no pucks on the ice
FRI Sept 22: NHL Camp -- first pucks-on-ice practice
If John Tortorella's camp is structured the same way as last year's, there will be battle drills and/or at least one scrimmage played this weekend. The first preseason exhibition game is next Monday (Sept. 25) at the Prudential Center in Newark against the New Jersey Devils.
2) Flyers Daily: On the weekly Mondays with Meltzer edition of Flyers Daily, Jason and I discuss our observations from the two Rookies Games played in Allentown this past weekend. We also briefly preview NHL camp and, in the wake of the Mike Babcock maelstrom in Columbus, talk about how coaches have had to evolve in some of their methods if they hope to stay in today's NHL.
