Quick Hits: July 4, 2021

1) On the next edition of Scout Week on Flyers' Daily on the Flyers Broadcast Network, Flyers OHL-based scout Rick Pracey discusses preparations for the 2021 NHL Draft. There were especially acute challenges related to scouting and ranking players in the Ontario Hockey League because the 2020-21 season was not played at all and the 2019-20 season ended early due to the pandemic. Some players transferred to other leagues, while others found themselves without a place to play this past season. In the cases of Flyers 2020 Draft selections Tyson Foerster and Zayde Wisdom, along with Mason Millman, the temporary relaxation of the CHL/AHL age rule meant that they were able to spend the 2020-21 season in the American Hockey League.

2) In the days to come, the Offseason Inventory series will continue on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com. Next up in the series: a look at Carter Hart, Oskar Lindblom, Phil Myers, Nolan Patrick and Nicolas Aube-Kubel. All of these players except Patrick (who missed the entire 2019-20 season) will look to bounce back to their season-before-last form.

3) Happy Independence Day to all American readers of this blog. On the Flyers' official website over the years, we've created an all-time Flyers Team USA and presented a series of historical facts and figures about American-citizen Flyers players and draft picks through the years.

4) One such player is Mike Knuble. Born on the 4th of July in 1972, Knuble was born in Toronto but raised in Michigan and always represented Team USA in international hockey competitions. He was also one of the latest-blooming power forwards in NHL history. Among his 278 career regular season goals in the NHL, Knuble scored 228 from age 30 until his retirement in 2013 as his 41st birthday approached.

Knuble was just in town this past week to play in the Flyers Alumni vs. Flyers Warriors Showcase game last Sunday in Aston, PA, and participate in the 2021 Flyers Alumni Golf Invitational the next day at Dupont Country Club in Wilmington.
