Which team has each Islander historically performed worst against? |

Yesterday we took a look at which team each Islander has historically performed best against. Today, we’ll switch it up and go the other way.
This is probably going to be pretty negative but it isn’t really meant as that, more so as just a natural follow-up to yesterday’s article.
Again, Devon Toews has been excluded based on how few games he's played. With that, here is which team each Islander historically performs worst against.
Josh Bailey: St. Louis Blues
Bailey isn’t the most consistent player but he’s been pretty consistent against the Blues- not in a good way, though. In 14 games he’s totalled just one goal and two assists.
Mathew Barzal: St. Louis Blues
It’s hard to really gage how someone plays against a team in just four games but Barzal does have just one assist to show for against St. Louis. He’s also only managed an assist against Arizona and Calgary in the same number of games but the difference is he’s only managed four shots in the four games against the Blues.
Anthony Beauviller: Boston Bruins
While yesterday we saw that many Islanders have success against the Rangers, today we’ll see that many Islanders struggle against the Bruins– and Beauviller is one of them. In eight games against Boston, Beauviller has no points.
Johnny Boychuk: Detroit Red Wings
Looking at Boychuk’s production against the Red Wings, it’s really not that bad. In 20 games, he’s scored two goals and six points. The big thing here is that he’s minus-11 in those 20 games. Say what you want about the validity of using plus/minus as a stat but having that bad of a rating against a team that hasn’t had a ton of success in the last six or seven years doesn’t look good.
Casey Cizikas: Nashville Predators
Nashville’s been a top team recently but one point and a minus-four rating in eight games for Cizikas doesn’t cut it.
Cal Clutterbuck: Montreal Canadiens
Cal Clutterbuck isn’t relied upon to score. That being said, if he’s being paid $3.5 million per year, he has to produce better than just two points in 19 games. He’s also accumulated a minus-10 rating in that time.
Jordan Eberle: Los Angeles Kings
Eberle has had a rough time against the Kings but luckily since moving East, he hasn’t had to face them often. Maybe it’s the Kings’ heavy style of play or maybe it’s something else but in 29 career games he has just four goals, 10 points and a brutal minus-13 rating.
Valtteri Filppula: Detroit Red Wings
Filppula must feel bad about scoring on his former team. He’s scored just five points in 20 games against the Red Wings and is a minus-9 rating.
Thomas Greiss: Chicago Blackhawks
In four games against Chicago, Greiss has yet to pick up a win. He has a lower save percentage against Detroit compared to his .891 save percentage against the Blackhawks, but his 3.50 goals against average is unmatched compared to other teams.
Thomas Hickey: San Jose Sharks
Luckily the Sharks are the team that Hickey performs worst against because at least the difference in conference means he doesn’t face them often. In 11 games against San Jose, he’s pointless with a minus-five rating.
Leo Komarov: Tampa Bay Lightning
Like Clutterbuck, Komarov isn’t necessarily meant to be scoring goals. That being said, in 20 games against the Lightning, he’s managed just two points.
Andrew Ladd: Winnipeg Jets
Ladd’s production from opponent to opponent actually doesn’t vary a ton at all. His best performance against a single team is just 0.83 points per game against Calgary, while his worst performance is eight points in 23 games against the Jets, still a 0.35 points per game average.
Nick Leddy: Boston Bruins
We all know Nick Leddy is more useful when it comes to his offensive production rather than his defensive play. However against the Bruins, he’s been terrible in both areas and in 19 games, Leddy has just two assists and a terrible minus-14 rating.
Anders Lee: Arizona Coyotes
You wouldn’t really expect for it to be the Arizona Coyotes who throw a wrench into Lee’s play. Similar to Barzal, however, Lee has had a hard time producing against the Coyotes, scoring just once and adding one assist in 10 career games against Arizona.
Robin Lehner: Carolina Hurricanes
Many thought Lehner should have been on the bench in the second round of the playoffs against Carolina. In all fairness, his stats against the Hurricanes aren’t great. Not including the playoffs, he had an .885 save percentage against Carolina and a horrid 4.25 goals against average. Including the playoffs, Lehner hasn’t won any of his eight games against Carolina.
Matt Martin: Boston Bruins
Martin is valuable to the Islanders in what he brings to the identity of the team. Having said that, Martin has just two points in 28 games. Again though, scoring isn’t his thing. However, add on that he’s a minus-13 in those 28 games and it’s pretty clear he has trouble against the Bruins.
Scott Mayfield: Boston Bruins
Mayfield is usually pretty reliable defensively but like so many others his stats have been poor against Boston. He’s a minus-six in six games against the Bruins and to put that into context, he’s no worse than a career minus-two against any other NHL team.
Brock Nelson: Boston Bruins
Nelson shouldn’t necessarily be relied upon to be a key driver of offense but against the Bruins you can’t count on him for much at all. In 18 games, he has no goals and just two points to go along with a minus-six rating.
Adam Pelech: Nashville Predators
Pelech is pretty statistically consistent no matter what team he faces but he’s struggled against Nashville. He’s a minus-four with no points in six games against the Predators.
Ryan Pulock: Montreal Canadiens
Pulock is relied upon heavily by the Islanders to play key minutes but he should maybe take a back seat whenever the Canadiens come up on the schedule. In six games, not only is Pulock pointless, he’s accumulated an ugly minus-seven rating.
In case you wanted to go back and count, I’ll save you the time and say there are five players who historically perform worst against Boston.
