The Anaheim Ducks played four games last week and a veteran goaltender announced his plans to retire. Here’s a recap of news and notes from last week.

DUCKS WIN TWO OF FOUR GAMES

Anaheim played a four-game series against the Los Angeles Kings last week, picking up two wins. The Ducks finish the season with a 4-4 record against the Kings.

MILLER ANNOUNCES HE WILL RETIRE, WINS FINAL HOME START

Goaltender Ryan Miller announced that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season. Miller is 40 years old and has played 18 seasons in the NHL, with the Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks. He won the final home start of his career on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings.

BACKES COULD RETIRE AFTER SEASON

Forward David Backes noted last week that he could retire at the end of the season, though it’s not a guarantee. Backes has played 20 games with the Ducks since being acquired at the trade deadline last year.

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: A year later, do you think the trade that sent Ondrej Kase to Boston for David Backes, Axel Andersson and a first-round pick was a good trade for the Ducks?

(Votes: 198)

Yes: 74%
No: 26%

I think the Ondrej Kase deal was certainly a win for the Ducks, with Anaheim selecting Jacob Perreault with the first-round pick they acquired and adding Axel Andersson as well. Kase has unfortunately played just eight regular season games with Boston since being acquired.

QUESTION: Where would you rank Ryan Miller amongst NHL goaltenders all-time?

(Votes: 101)

Top 30: 35%
Top 50: 20%
Top 20: 19%
Top 40: 14%
Outside the Top 50: 13%

Miller certainly has a claim in any discussion, as the winningest American-born goaltender of all-time. It’s tough to say exactly where he ranks but I think it has to be inside the Top 50.
