The San Jose Sharks won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery tonight, getting the right to the first-overall pick in this summer’s NHL Draft.

The Sharks entered the night with the highest odds of winning the pick, following their last place finish this season. It marks the first time in franchise history that the Sharks will select first overall.

Like usual, there’s pretty much a consensus top prospect heading into the draft, in Macklin Celebrini. The forward led Boston University as a freshman in both goals (32) and points (64) across 38 games. Celebrini also has ties to the area, having played minor hockey with the San Jose Jr. Sharks.

The Sharks will also have the 14th overall pick in the draft, courtesy of the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the Erik Karlsson trade.

Assuming they do take Celebrini, it’s a massive win for the franchise, giving them a possible franchise player to build around. It marks a significant step for the Sharks’ in their rebuild, with Celebrini able to help guide the team towards a brighter future.

Check back on Thursday for an article recapping the season, and looking at what comes next for the Sharks.
