The San Jose Sharks have reportedly signed defenseman Santeri Hatakka to a three-year entry-level contract, according to CapFriendly. The contract carries a $850,833 cap hit and begins next season.

Hatakka was selected by the Sharks in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. He spent the year in Finland’s top professional league, managing a goal and seven points in 44 games, and also won a Bronze Medal with Finland at this year’s World Juniors.

While we could see Hatakka join the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda next season, he’s likely still a little ways off from competing for a spot on the Sharks’ blue line. That said, he was good in his own end for Finland at the World Juniors this year and could potentially provide a bit more defensive stability for San Jose down the road.
