The Los Angeles Kings selected five players in the 2023 NHL Draft yesterday.

Without a first-round pick this year as a result of their trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets, all of the Kings' picks came on Day Two. Here were the results:

JAKUB DVORAK (2nd Round, 54th overall) - With the Kings’ first pick, the team selected left-handed defenseman Jakub Dvorak. Standing at 6-foot-5 and 209 pounds, Dvorak was already playing in Czechia’s highest professional league, where he managed two points in 24 games.

KOEHN ZIEMMER (3rd Round, 78th Overall) - A right winger, Ziemmer has a late birthday and is a 2004-born forward. Ziemmer spent his third year with the Prince George Cougars this season, scoring 41 goals and 89 points in just 68 games.

HAMPTON SLUKYNSKY (4th Round, 118th Overall) - The Kings also opted to take a goaltender for the first time in three years. Slukynsky spent the majority of the year playing high school hockey, where he posted a .941 save percentage in 30 games with Warroad High.

MATTHEW MANIA (5th Round, 150th Overall) - Mania spent the season with the Sudbury Wolves as an OHL sophomore. The right-handed defenseman managed 10 goals and 38 points in 67 games.

RYAN CONMY (6th Round, 182nd Overall) - With the their final pick, the Kings selected 5-foot-10 forward Ryan Conmy from the USHL. Conmy also has a late birthday, and is coming off an impressive year with Sioux City, where he led the Musketeers in both goals and points.

In other news, free agency opens tomorrow.

While it could be a fairly quiet day for the Kings compared to some other teams, the main storyline to track for the Kings will be what happens in goal.

With extremely limited cap space, Los Angeles really doesn’t have much room to maneuver. Perhaps they look to the trade market instead, but we could find out the Kings’ plans between the pipes as early as tomorrow.

I’ve already released a contract projection article for Joonas Korpisalo, but a full list of free agent projections can be found at HockeyComparables.com. Any remaining UFA projections will be out as of tomorrow morning, to track how each deal signed in free agency lines up against projections. Any outstanding RFA projections will be out by the end of next week.
