*Apologies, didn't have time to get a pre-game report up before this one.*

The Carolina Hurricanes had their three-game win streak snapped yesterday, losing 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils. Here’s the game recap.

Warren Foegele gave the Hurricanes the lead eight minutes in on a sweet passing play. Jake Gardiner crossed the line and gave it to Sebastian Aho, who then found Foegele in front of the net and Foegele went to the backhand, slipping it under Mackenzie Blackwood.

The Devils wouldn’t wait long to tie it up though, as Will Butcher took a shot from the point which banked off the boards and Miles Wood was on the doorstep to put it up and over an outstretched James Reimer.

Carolina got their lead back before the end of the first period, when Teuvo Teravainen cashed in on a rebound from an Andrei Svechnikov shot. Once again though, New Jersey tied it up when Jack Hughes was the first to a loose puck sitting behind Reimer. It wasn’t a great one for Reimer to give up, as the initial shot from Taylor Hall never should have gotten through.

New Jersey took the lead under a minute into the second period, when Andy Greene picked Sebastian Aho’s pocket then gave it to Nico Hischier, who crossed Carolina’s blue line, made Jaccob Slavin look silly and roofed it over Reimer who was basically on the goal line. Third goal for the Devils on 10 shots and it was a beautiful play by Hischier.

The Hurricanes evened it up a bit later though, as Blackwood lost track of Ryan Dzingel behind the net and before he could adjust, Erik Haula already had it in front of the net and was in the middle of releasing it.

The third period started with an extremely rare 3-on-3 in regulation, where Taylor Hall got a breakaway and beat Reimer clean on a shot but rang it right off the crossbar behind him. A couple minutes later though, Reimer mishandled the puck and Miles Wood took control, threw it to the net and P.K. Subban was there for the tip to put the Devils up 4-3.

Teuvo Teravainen nearly tied it with his second of the game on a shot from the slot but put it right off the post. Damon Severson then iced it, scoring an empty-netter with under a minute to go.

This was a bad one for James Reimer. He can be faulted for the second goal with the shot that shouldn’t have gotten through him and the fourth goal, where he turned the puck over. Four goals on 25 shots won’t cut it.
