The Anaheim Ducks will select second overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Despite the Ducks having the best odds at the top pick after finishing last in the NHL, the Chicago Blackhawks emerged as winners of the lottery. It marks the third time in franchise history the Ducks will pick second overall, most recently selecting Bobby Ryan in that position back in 2005.

With Connor Bedard now set to be off the board by the time the Ducks select, the attention will turn to the second-best player available.

Obviously, it’s a frustrating outcome. To be so close to a generational player just to lose out, especially given where the Ducks stand as a franchise, is a huge miss. But with an extremely talented draft class, the organization is still poised to select an elite forward. The frontrunner right now would be Adam Fantilli. Other names to keep an eye on are Matvei Michkov and Leo Carlsson.

The first round of the 2023 NHL Draft will take place on June 28.
