Noah Dobson and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies captured the QMJHL title on Saturday, defeating fellow Islanders prospect Arnaud Durandeau’s Halifax Mooseheads.

Dobson had 29 points in 20 playoff games, carrying an incredible plus-28 rating, leading to him be named the QMJHL’s playoff MVP. The Huskies will represent the QMJHL in the Memorial Cup tournament, coming a year after Dobson and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan won the Memorial Cup.

On the losing side, Arnaud Durandeau, an Islanders sixth-round pick in 2017, had 10 goals and 20 points in 23 playoff games with the Mooseheads, who will be hosting the Memorial Cup tournament. Durandeau could be up with Bridgeport next season, while Dobson may have a shot at making the Islanders.

If you’re watching the Memorial Cup, there are three other players you may want to keep an eye on as well. Rouyn-Noranda’s Alex Beaucage, Halifax’s Raphael Lavoie and Prince Albert’s Brett Leason are all top prospects eligible for the 2019 Draft.

Beaucage is a 6-foot-2 winger that hasn’t been talked about much but probably should be. Still just 17 years old, he scored 39 goals and 79 points this year with the Huskies, as well as 16 points in 16 playoff games. That’s pretty productive considering he hasn’t been mentioned much as a potential first-round pick. The Islanders may want to watch closely to see if he’s still available in the second round when it’s their turn to pick.

Lavoie probably won’t be available by the 23rd pick but if he is, the Islanders should be going after him. Lavoie is a 6-foot-4 winger who exploded for 20 goals and 32 points in the Mooseheads’ playoff run.

Leason was mentioned in a previous article as a possible first-round pick for the Islanders. He had 25 points in 22 playoff games with Prince Albert, following an excellent regular season which gained him quite a bit of attention headed into the draft.

The Memorial Cup tournament kicks off this Friday.
