Blues pick Bortuzzo over Sanford?

Can you believe how odd/funny things have been around the St. Louis Blues lately?

Robert Bortuzzo shoots a puck of St. Louisan referee Tim Peel that goes along the goal line and off future hall of fame goalie Roberto Luongo and into the net.

Bortuzzo and Zach Sanford get into a fight in practice.

Vladimir Tarasenko gets a penalty for illegal equipment in overtime even though a penalty shouldn't have been called and yet Ryan O'Reilly scores the overtime short-handed game winning goal.

Well now on the day the Blues signed Robert Bortuzzo to a 3 year extension with an AAV of $1.375 million, they assign his sparring partner Sanford to San Antonio in the AHL. How ironic.

Bortuzzo earned the extension as his play has continued to improve since arriving from Pittsburgh. The team is relying on him more and more and is getting rewarded and today Bortuzzo got rewarded with an extension, one that is very manageable and cap friendly.

Sanford earned his demotion in my opinion. I hope he continues to get stronger and compete more consistently. The Blues don't want him playing Jordan Nolan minutes (@5 minutes) in the NHL but rather playing significant minutes in the AHL, developing. Let him get more power play time and more 1st line type minutes rather than spending most of the game on the bench.

NHL Champions for Charity
We’ve gotten some traction on the charity wager among the Central Division bloggers. More on that to come.

It’s a great day for hockey.
