As you have no doubt already heard, Antti Raanta has been placed on the injured reserve.
The Coyotes best and most important player is on the shelf for an undetermined amount of time, and the Coyotes will hope the season doesn't fall apart while he's gone.
Last year, Raanta missed close to half a year, and the Coyotes were unable to fill the void. This year, they've at least got a capable back-up in Darcey Kuemper, but he's no Raanta.
The Coyotes have also recalled Hunter Misca to back-up Kuemper.
I think they should be OK here. As long as it's a short-term thing, and it seems it is, the Coyotes are a good enough team to get by with Kuemper for a while. If Rannta is out for a long time though, that's a different story.
Arizona just doesn't have an elite scorer on their roster, so their success depends on entirely on the kind of all-star goaltending that has come to be expected of Rannta. With him, I think they can make the playoffs, but without him - No way.
Tonight's game is a re-match from Monday, where the Flyers won 5-2. The Coyotes played a pretty good game and lost, so hopefully tonight they can win.
