Evgeni Malkin probably deserves some more attention

Evgeni Malkin was named the NHL's second star of the month.

Geno has been an offensive machine. He has been the biggest threat the Penguins have at 5v5 since the beginning of last year. Sidney Crosby had a weird off year. Evgeni Malkin has a 2.79 points per 60 at even-strength since the beginning of last year. which is eighth best in the NHL. Through the first ten games this year he leads the entire NHL at 5.64 points per 60 (Phil Kessel #2 at 5.34).

There's a lot of talk about the top lines in Boston and Colorado as tops in the league. Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel have been so dominant that they deserve the same kind of consideration. The problem is that Carl Hagelin doesn't really contribute anything offensively. Despite his linemates absolutely popping off he only has a 1.39 points per 60 this year. You should be able to get more than that on accident. He shouldn't be stapled to that line if he isn't going to do better than 1.39 when the other two literally lead the NHL.

Kris Letang might be making his return tonight. I thought he would Tuesday and he didn't. The fact is he is day to day and not week to week so that is good.
