Maple Leafs depth empties the Jets fuel

The Winnipeg Jets were on a winning streak at home of 14-0-1 and the Leafs surprised with the first three goals of the game. It was one of the most fast paced games I’ve seen! Both teams were flying and both goalies had to be sharp as the two offensive juggernauts clashed in the Peg.

Kapanen wired one passed the Jets Hellebyuck and got the Leafs on the board with his fifth of the season. Kappy’s hot start continues and he looks like a great fit beside Matthews and Marleau. If and when Nylander returns to the lineup I am a firm believer he will start on the third line with Kadri and they will add yet another dimension to this Leafs offense hungry lineup.

The Leafs have been a dominant force on the road this season with a perfect 5-0 record. Tomorrow they will host the Jets and look to capture four points versus a high quality Western Conference contender. The Saturday night games are always a bit more electric than any other, the crowds are a bit more wild (and buzzed) and you can feel the excitement in the air.

I’m thinking we see Matthews pot a goal and start up another goal scoring streak, just a hunch.

I thought the Leafs looked pretty good out there after a couple days off practicing and working on some zone issues in the defensive end. That really was a big road win in a building that hadn’t seen a loss in such a long period of time going back to last season. Fifteen games without a loss is a long time!

You think Kadri was happy he finally buried the biscuit? The arms of 43 came out and you can almost feel the relief come out from his body as he swung around the sideboards happy to have the monkey off the back and his first goal in ten games. Kadri is one of the guys who just may ignite after potting his first; he’s scored 32 goals each of the last two seasons. Don’t count “the Dream” out just yet, he’s just waking up.

The Leafs line of Hyman-Tavares-Marner has been so fun to watch. It’s almost as if Tavares and Marner practiced together all off season, were these guys meant to be or what? That little feed by JT to send Marner in full speed followed by a dangle and a quick shot on net looking for a rebound…Tavares knew exactly what was up and stormed the net and buried it like the champion he is.

It looks as if Fredrick Andersen has knocked off any early season rust and will be back to his normal dominant wall-like self by months end as predicted. Part of it is certainly getting used to the new equipment let alone getting your body and mind back to NHL form.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the game on Saturday.
