In this edition of the hotstove, we share our thoughts on which players are most likely to rebound from slow starts to the season.

Todd Cordell

Let's go with William Nylander.

The 21-year-old has taken a beating from the media for his play of late but the reality is he's been much better than his counting numbers suggest.

He is tied for 30th in the NHL with 53 scoring chances, which is more than the likes of Sidney Crosby, Joe Pavelski, John Tavares, Anze Kopitar, Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine, among many others. What does he have to show for it? One goal. One goal on 53 chances for one of the most talented, young players in the league.

I could probably convert on one out of 53 chances – a broken clock is still right twice per day – so I'm going to bet on a lot of positive regression moving forward.

When that inevitably happens, we can all act shocked and pretend Nylander is a completely different player.

Jared Crozier

22, 17, 27 and 29.

Those are the goal totals over the last 4 seasons for defending Norris Trophy winner Brent Burns. Right now Burns is on pace to score less than 4 goals, despite firing shots at a near career-high pace. Normally a 7-8% shooter, his current shooting percentage is 1.1%, a stat that can only get better as the season goes on for one of the more dynamic defensemen in the league.

James Tanner

It's got to be William Nylander. The guy has only 1 5v5 goal, but he's been on the ice for more scoring chances than almost anyone, and I think he's shooting about 3%. Lots of shots, lots of assists, good Corsi numbers..........he's due!
