Will the New Jersey Devils draft Nico Hischier or Nolan Patrick? Could they go off the board and select Cale Makar? Could the pick be traded?
After months of speculation, those questions will finally be answered tonight.
Based on conversations I've had with people in hockey, I believe Hischier is the guy the Devils like. The whole organization has been extremely quiet throughout the process, though, so it certainly wouldn't be a shock if they go with Patrick.
It would, however, be a shock if they stand pat and take Makar.
I don't believe that is a realistic possibility. Could they trade down and select Makar? I definitely wouldn't bet on that, either.
Shero's made it no secret the Devils have received a handful of offers throughout the last few weeks and none of them have been given a second thought. If a team like Vegas really wants to move up, they're going to have to pay a king's ransom.
There will be a lot of noise leading up to the 1st pick -- there always is -- but I don't expect anything to come of it.
When all is said and done, I think the Devils will stand pat and choose Hischier or Patrick -- as they should.
If they make a splash, I think it will be for another reason.
This is going to be a fun day. Enjoy it.
